Stuart Attwell named in VAR team for Euro 2024 amid Forest controversy

Stuart Attwell will be one of the VARs at this summer’s European Championship in Germany, with Anthony Taylor among the on-field referees.

The news comes two days on from the pair being on duty for Nottingham Forest’s 2-0 loss at Everton, after which the officiating was attacked in a social media post from the visitors that referenced Attwell being “a Luton fan”.

The post said there had been “three extremely poor decisions – three penalties not given – which we simply cannot accept”, adding: “We warned the PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited) that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game, but they didn’t change him.”

The referee teams for have been appointed.

Milik out of Poland´s Euro 2024 squad through injury

Poland will be without Arkadiusz Milik for their Euro 2024 campaign, with manager Michal Probierz confirming the striker had sustained an injury in their 3-1 victory over Ukraine.

The Juventus striker was forced to withdraw from the action in just the second minute of their encounter at the Stadion Narodowy after going down with a knee injury and was assisted off the pitch by medical staff.

The Eagles boss confirmed that the 30-year-old would not feature in the tournament, with the Polish FA revealing Milik will undergo arthroscopic surgery, having suffered a meniscus problem.

The striker has previously found himself in this unfortunate scenario, having missed Euro 2021 following an injury in Marseille s final match of the 2020-21 Ligue 1 campaign. He also did …

Jurgen Klopp to stand down as Liverpool boss, saying ‘I’m running out of energy’

Jurgen Klopp has shocked the world of football by announcing he will stand down as Liverpool manager at the end of the season after admitting he is “running out of energy”.

The 56-year-old German, who has led the Reds to six major trophies since taking charge in October 2015, said he informed the club’s bosses of his decision to leave back in November.

Klopp admitted he expected those outside the club to “laugh about” his exit and use it as an excuse to “disturb” Liverpool, but called on everyone connected to the Reds to rally around for a glorious finale.

“Let’s squeeze everything out of this season and have another thing to smile about when we look back in the future.”

Jürgen’s important message to you.

Mexico 2-1 Jamaica: El Tri grab last-gasp winner on road to Qatar 2022

Mexico clinched the start they wanted, opening their CONCACAF World Cup qualifying campaign with a dramatic 2-1 win over Jamaica.

Henry Martin s 89th-minute strike was the difference at an empty Estadio Azteca, helping El Tri avoid an embarrassing result as they look to secure a spot at Qatar 2022.

Mexico dominated possession throughout Thursday s fixture and out-shot Jamaica 27-5, but Reggae Boyz goalkeeper Andre Blake thwarted the hosts until Martin s last-gasp winner.

A botched clearance by Jamaica in the 50th minute left the ball at Alexis Vega s feet, with multiple Mexico players in an offside position, he held the ball and worked his way toward the middle of the field along the top of the penalty area before sending a right-footed shot past a diving …

Graham Taylor: 1944-2017

Former England manager Graham Taylor has died at the age of 72.

Taylor s death was confirmed on Thursday, prompting an outpouring of grief in the game, especially in England.

He managed his country between 1990 and 1993, taking over from Bobby Robson after semi-final glory at Italia 90, although he was not able to replicate such success as the Three Lions exited Euro 92 at the group stage and failed to qualify for the 1994 World Cup under Taylor s leadership.

A fly-on-the-wall documentary entitled An Impossible Job wrote Taylor into English football folklore, his utterances of Do I not like that! and Can we not knock it? as England drew 1-1 in Poland going down in history.

Regardless, Taylor will go down as one of the greatest managers in the history of…

Hefty Colombia defeat a ´wake-up call´ for USA, claims Berhalter

Gregg Berhalter shrugged off the suggestion the United States can take lessons from their 5-1 loss to Colombia, instead insisting the defeat must act as a wake-up call .

The USA were comprehensively dispatched by in-form Colombia at FedEx Field on Saturday, in a pre-Copa America friendly.

The United States is hosting the 2024 Copa America, though Berhalter s team looked no match for one of South America s best sides as Jhon Arias, Rafael Santos Borre, Richard Rios, Jorge Carrascal and Luis Sinisterra got on the scoresheet in a rout, with those final three goals coming in the last 13 minutes, after Timothy Weah had pulled one back for the home side.

Colombia became the fourth team to score five goals against the USA on American soil and the first since Mexico in 2…

Bundesliga 2018-19: How Bayern beat Dortmund to the title

Bayern Munich have won the Bundesliga for the seventh year in a row, despite Borussia Dortmund pushing them harder than in recent seasons.

Lucien Favre s side have made great progress this term with a thrilling young side including stars such as Jadon Sancho, yet they may rue a missed opportunity in the 2018-19 season.

Dortmund made a flying start and led Bayern by seven points earlier in the campaign, only for the defending champions to come roaring back under Niko Kovac, capitalising on BVB s patchy post-Christmas form and sealing the title with Saturday s 5-1 hammering of Eintracht Frankfurt.

Omnisport looks back at nine key games that ensured the championship shield will be residing in Bavaria once again.

Benaglio: Switzerland learned lessons of 2010

Goalkeeper Diego Benaglio believes that Switzerland have learned the lessons of their 2010 FIFA World Cup experience.

The Swiss opened their tournament with victory over eventual champions Spain four years ago, before failing to qualify from the group.

Ottmar Hitzfeld s men kicked off the 2014 event with another win on Sunday beating Ecuador 2-1 but Benaglio, who was part of the squad in South Africa, is confident of reaching the knockout stages this time around.

Of course, the atmosphere is good, but I think that everyone who was involved four years ago is wary of what can happen, he is quoted as saying by FIFA.com. We ve learnt our lesson.

We ve already won against a competitor for a spot in the next round, so things already look brighter than at the …
